These days, music has integrated itself into every aspect of our lives. It’s in commercials,
songs we use in school to help us memorize things, and even in certain video games. It’s
therapeutic for some people. For one of my favorite artists, Olivia Rodrigo, it is a way for
her to vent, a way for her to have her voice be heard. She wrote a whole album made up of
eleven songs called Sour to help deal with a breakup. Music is scientifically proven to help
ease depression and stress or to just jam out too.
I conducted a survey of what artists kids at Blake think are the top five artists. Then, I had
Ashley, Neddy, and Arnold (all first-year students) rate the artists on a scale of one to ten,
one being terrible and ten being amazing. The artists that were originally given to me were
Lana Del Rey, Taylor Swift, Steve Lacy, Frank Ocean, Tyler the Creator, Billie Eilish,
Metallica, Deaf Tones, Melanie Martinez, Blade, Childish Gambino, Nirvana, Mitski,
beabadoobee, Radiohead, Kendrick Lamar, The Smiths, and Faye Webster.

After this, to find my top five, I took out the ten’s (Frank Ocean, beabedoobee, and Kendrick
Lamar) because they automatically make it on the list. Next, I extracted all my nine’s
(Taylor Swift, Melanie Martinez, Mitski, Radiohead, and The Smiths) and had people rate
them one out of five.

When I was done looking through all these, I had to look through all the rankings to see
who was ranked above or below each other in the polls. The Smiths and Mitski were the
only ones that made it through. Now with my final artists (Frank Ocean, beabadoobee,
Kendrick Lamar, Mitski, and The Smiths). Here are the rankings for those artists.

Now, after going through all this, I saw that most people favored Kendrick Lamar very
highly, so he made it into the number one slot on the list. Frank Ocean was also favored so
he made it into the number two slot. After that comes Mitski, beabadoobee, and then The
Smiths.
