Blake High School’s Boys’ basketball team made it to the State Basketball Championship in Lakeland, Florida on March 6, 2024. The team was led by Coach Lewis.
Following the State Championship, the Yellow Jackets dominated the Miami Norland Buccaneers in the State Semifinals, with a final score of 53-40. Joshua Lewis made the bulk of these points, ending the game with a total of 24 points.
Despite the initial lead in the first half of the game, our boys unfortunately didn’t win the Final State Championship against the land Vikings. Starting in the first quarter, the Yellow Jackets had a score of 12-7, which was lost in the second quarter when the Vikings surpassed us turning the score into 13-15.
The final score was 48-61, giving the Yellow Jackets a 26-6 season overall.
This devastation is only fuel for the team’s hopeful win next year. The team could be heard saying that next year the game will be “personal” and many vowed for a championship win next season.
