Prom is one of biggest nights of the school year. It’s all about the hair, the nails and, most importantly, the dress. This years prom took place on Saturday, March 25th at the Renaissance Tampa International Hotel.

There are many thoughts swarming around the campus. Some are saying that prom was great and was really fun. “It exceeded my expectations. Everybody thought the DJ was kind of wack but I kind of liked him,” said Maissie Hughes, “I though everyone looked beautiful.”

The most important part of the night was the announcement of the prom king and queen. Ariyon Rodgers and Iyan Agard won what is probably one of the biggest competitions for seniors. “I felt amazing,” said Ariyon, remembering how she felt when she heard her name being called that night. “The four years I have been at Blake, a black girl didn’t win Prom Queen. And I did, so it felt amazing.” The title has a personal and deep meaning to her.

Ariyon also provided some advice to juniors who are planning on running for either prom king or queen. “Just make sure you’re always nice, humility is important! Be very confident and make sure you’re very respectful of everyone’s feelings.”
