Mrs. Tidwell Helping student Delaney Scott on her yearbook spread

A new school year comes with new teachers. The newest addition to Blake’s Journalism team is Mrs. Tidwell. Tidwell isn’t new to teaching, having worked as a teacher for University of Central Florida. There, she taught Introduction to Composition classes. She was also a writing tutor before heading to Blake. Mrs. Tidwell is very excited to have a journalism staff of her own. It’s something that she’s never done before- but she’s no stranger to the wild world of high school journalism. Tidwell was a journalism student at Hillsborough High School and was editor in chief for two years. Tidwell says high school is “such a different environment. Students fund for their classes (at a university) versus here at Blake.”

Tidwell wants to help the journalism program grow by learning the best plan for consistency and build on that to make a reliable program. She plans to improve marketing as well as enter contests to better the students’ skills. “ I want to hone into our strengths,” she says.

Journalism major Isley Mitchell says that Mrs. Tidwell is, “being productive and is making sure the program runs right.” Rebeca Braukman, another Journalism major says, “She seems very motivated. Just like everyone else first starting out, she has a lot to learn.”

The Journalism department plans for a great year with Mrs. Tidwell.
