At the beginning of August, a chilling breeze of death blew through the historic city of Ybor, following the breeze came a wave of sadness and confusion among the community of not only humans, but chickens. The colonel of every chicken in the town-square most famously known for his perfect white feathers, was found dead in the city streets with not a suspect around.

The chickens of Ybor have become a staple for the city, becoming very familiar to both guests and residents. The chickens have become so well-known and liked that a group of people in the community have created an Ybor Chicken Society, which is an organization dedicated to protecting and promoting the birds. When the news of the death of the iconic white-feathered bird fell upon the society the question of the birds safety sprung up. The Chicken society has claimed that the chickens are largely safe.

The death of the Colonel itself is quite unexplored. Most articles that touched on the story but none have went into full detail on the death. The Ybor Chicken society itself has not released any details on the exact cause of death of the colonel. When asked if the colonel could have been murdered and viewed as a form of symbolism the society said “I’m sure he was just a convenient target. He was the most visible in the dark because of his pure white color. He also had been under the weather, so his one eye was often closed.” It’s quite the coincidence that out of all the chickens in town the one that’s most well-known was attacked. If this death was a murder, then the motivation is quite unknown. The society hinted at a possible intoxication of the unidentified subject. “It’s not possible to know why someone would have wanted to kill our friend. People make bad decisions when they’re angry or intoxicated…”

Whether the death of the Colonel was an intentional murder or just simply an accident, justice has been demanded. “Animal cruelty can be a felony. If caught, we would recommend the harshest punishment possible.” Voices the chicken society on what their preferred punishment of the chicken killer. The whole community is distraught and the safety of the rest of the chickens can be questionable. With nearly a month gone by since the murder, there have still been no answers and this murder may never be solved.
