The specifics of Pacific Rim 2
The following contains spoilers for the movie: Pacific Rim Uprising
The very anticipated sequel of the original Pacific Rim, starring John Boyega and Scott Eastward, has finally arrived in movie theaters across the world. What can you expect from this new movie? How much different is it from the first movie?
Well the good news is: there are still giant robots fighting against giant monsters. The plot for the new movie stars the son of the “Savior of the World” (Idris Elba), who was one of the main character and cast of Pacific Rim. Jake Pentecost tries his best to be greater than what his father told him he could be. He’s constantly kicked out of the academy however, and goes around several cities dealing with shady figures and thugs who are after “Jeagur” cores. In an attempt to get a Jeagur core himself, Jake runs into a little girl named Amara Namani (Cailee Spaeny). Despite her age, she was capable of creating a small Jeagar that was fully operational. Creating Jeagurs are illegal though, without a specific licenses. So immediately, the two was caught and put back into the academy under the conditions set in place by the High Commander, Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi).
In contrast to the first movie, the threat of the Kaijus was gone. Jeagurs were still created in case of another attack, but little did anyone know, Kaiju neural systems found themselves inside of Jeagurs. This caused Jeagurs to go rogue.
One Kaiju-Jeagur in particular, killed the High Commander Mako Mori, which broke a lot of people as she was one of the main characters in the first movie. Jake Pentecost after the death of Mako Mori, tries to investigate the cause of her death, and starts taking his inherited skills seriously.
At this point, the movie makes a huge turn from plot to action. It’s an unexpected turn, but one that no one disagrees with. Using famous Jeagurs from the first movie, Jake Pentecost and Nate Lambert (betraying their famous rivalry) work together to find the real culprit of the rogue Jeagurs.
In the end, the movie was a great sequel in contrast to the first movie. The graphics were phenomenal, the transitions were smooth, and the plot was really good. I recommend this movie to the people who love Science Fiction and Action.
