The positive radiation of Stephen Hawking

Students went into the weekend tired: it was the end of 3rd Quarter for Hillsborough County Public Schools. Whether their teachers gave them Spring Break Assignments or none at all, nothing separated students from learning. The news they learned however was a tragic one, Stephen Hawking at the age of 76 died on March 14th in Cambridge, United Kingdom.
Stephen Hawking was a born in the United Kingdom, into a normal life. It wasn’t until the age of 21 that he was diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). But before that, Hawking wasn’t exactly keen on his studies. The disease gave him the motivation to continue his studies at Cambridge. With the support of his family, he continued through his life despite of the danger of ALS.
After a while, Stephen Hawking lost all control of his muscles. The computer program controlling his speech had to rely on his cheek muscles to choose speech modules. Despite the struggle of speaking, this didn’t stop him from being the profound scientist he is known for today. In his life, he created 15 books, one of his best being The Brief History of Time.
Ms. Johnson, a biology teacher here at Blake High School, regularly posts on her Instagram fun science-based activities that she performs at school or after school. However, she ignored her usual schedule to post about the death of this profound theoretical physicist.

- Hawking says his disease made him work harder. He realized he had things to do in life and he better get going.
- He married Jane Wilde after his diagnosis.
- Hawking was born on January 8, 1942, 300 years after the death of Galileo. He was born during World War II. His parents moved from London to Oxford to keep him safe during the war.
- Hawking’s condition continued to get worse. He cannot speak or walk. He keeps writing and learning though. He uses a special computer program to talk for him.
- His work on the universe and black holes has changed the way scientists think about the universe.
- Hawking dreams big. He believes time travel is possible and people may someday live on other planets.

My mom ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) symptoms started out with a “foot drop” on her left foot. From there her left leg lost all muscle tone and all the entire left leg muscles was almost gone. Also her fingers and thumbs “contract” at times.
