Let’s show that Yellow Jacket pride!
The first pep rally of the year got students in the spirit for the rivalry game vs. Middleton.
Showing school spirit is important. Here at Blake, we’re all about showing spirit, especially at our pep rallies. Our first pep rally was held on October 6th celebrating our fall sports and the historical rivalry game against Middleton High.
The Marching Yellow Jackets and Sting dance team are a regular crowd-pleaser. They gave us a series of performances, one of them being to Bruno Mar’s ‘That’s What I Like’. The cheer team also gave an amazing performance with amazing stunts.
Student Government decided to have a little competition involving the football team. They had varsity players against junior varsity in a game of tug-of-war; this resulted in the JV team winning. To get the crowd involved, SGA had a student or sometimes two from each grade level to come down to the floor and participate in some games. They had students find 3 gummy bears in a pile a whipped cream with no hands, run a 3 legged race while trying to keep a balloon off of the floor, trying to cover a classmate in a roll of toilet paper and race on a rolling board while using a plunger to move. It seemed like the crowd had a lot of fun.
“It was fun. I think it was better than previous [pep rallies] because we did more things and everyone seemed more excited than usual,” said Destiny Pierce.
One of the more important announcements made was who made it to the final round for Homecoming court! The final three candidates for Homecoming Queen seniors are Janae Singletary, Anndrea “Allie” Coston, and Keishonna Belcher; King is Anthony Floyd, Zenis Gordon, and Jalen “Caleb” Lattimore. Homecoming Princess candidates for juniors are Lydia Rodriguez, Monay Johnson, and Kristy Delva; Prince is D’ante Ford, Wayne Mitchell-Striker, and Jaquan Williams. The candidates for Duchess for sophomores are Ayanna Anderson, Saigon Boyd, and Ranita Holland; Duke is Adrian Jex, Alex Heidt, and Deylin Condry. Homecoming Countess candidates for freshmen are Ariyanna Brookins, Ayr’Reka Gilshresy, and Gianna Simpson; Count is Tim Clouden and Sean Joiner.
Of course, any rivalry pep rally wouldn’t be complete without a Middleton Tiger invading the Hive! But Howey, our mascot, was there to make sure they didn’t wreck havoc. This is a normal tradition to show that we believe our football team will defeat the Tigers once again!
